How do I buy shares in Ethiopia?

You buy and sell shares through a licensed ESX trading member (a broker or dealer); your securities are then held electronically for you at the Central Securities Depository.

To invest in shares on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), you trade through a licensed trading member — a broker or dealer admitted by the exchange. You open an account with one of them, and they place your buy and sell orders on the market.

Your securities aren't paper certificates. They're recorded electronically (dematerialised) in your name at the Central Securities Depository (CSD), which handles settlement and safekeeping.

Only deal with firms licensed by ECMA and admitted by the ESX. You can see the current trading members and licensed firms in the Directory, and you should always verify a firm before sending any money.
